- Start a phrase inside, go outside in the middle and end the phrase inside again.
- Try moving up or down a halfstep.
- Try moving up or down a tritone.
- Use chromatics.
- Play interval sequences.
- Play scales (e.g. pentatonics) that don’t fit the chord.
- Play the same mode but from another root.
- Play through interval cycles (e.g. Minor third).
- Play random chord progressions not related to the original chord.
- Transpose a motive randomly into different keys.
- Negative scales, Negatives of all the structures.
- Play exact sequences, shift motive exactly by certain intervals.
