Trichords: Introduction

While the rest of the book approaches melodic material functionally and considers the relationship between note and harmony, this chapter will use trichords to introduce an intervallic approach to improvisation. Just as you can combine two thirds to build a triad, you can combine any two intervals to build a trichords. If you eliminate inversions and retrogrades, you will get only twelve different interval pairs.
